Synovial Osteochondromatosis

This is a benign clinical condition characterised by abnormal formation of multiple loose bodies in the hip joint. The patient presents with groin pain and may be accompanied by locking or giving way episodes. This condition is treated by removal of these loose bodies and lining of the hip joint. This can be done either by key-hole surgery (arthroscopy) or open surgery. The condition if left alone results in arthritis of the hip joint necessitating joint replacement.
